Housing and Urban Development Homes
HUD Homes
HUD homes are residential properties acquired by the
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) from foreclosures on
Federal Housing Administration (FHA) insured mortgages. HUD becomes the property owner and sells the properties to recover losses on the foreclosure claims.Almost anyone can buy a HUD home! If you have cash or can qualify for a loan (subject to certain restrictions) you may buy a HUD Home. HUD Homes are initially available only to people who want to buy the home as their primary residence. After the priority period for owner occupants, however, unsold homes become available to investors.
